11xx SIP ⇄ UNIStim Conversion

Notes for converting an 11xx series set between SIP and UNIStim.

  1. Setup a TFTP Server, with the necessary config and firmware files (see below)
  2. (optional) DHCP server, which can simplify the process if updating a lot of phones

A Raspberry Pi can be used, see: Raspberry Pi TFTP server and Raspberry Pi DHCP for Avaya.
For Windows, use Tftpd64.exe which includes both TFTP and DHCP server components.

With a DHCP server, set Option 66 (boot server) with the TFTP servers IP address.
- eg, in Tftpd64.exe: DHCP tab, add 'Additional Option' 66, and server <IP_address>

No DHCP server, manually enter the TFTP address in the phone settings:

Provisioning ➤ Server URL ➤ <IP_address>
Provisioning ➤ Protocol ➤ TFTP

Two DHCP servers on the same network is never good, so use a spare switch!

Reset the phone to factory defaults with: * * 7 3 6 3 9 <MAC> # #
DHCP is enabled by default, so with a DHCP server, skip "Manual setup"...

Manual setup:

To get into the phones settings menu:

  1. Unplug/Power off the phone
  2. Press and hold the digit 2 and the UP navigation arrow
  3. Plug the phone back in, still holding the two buttons
  4. Wait for "Starting DHCP" to appear, and release buttons
  5. When AVAYA is displayed (lower left), quickly press the 4 keys under the LCD in order from left to right.

    The password is: C O L O R * S E T   (2 6 5 6 7 * 7 3 8)

  6. Using the navigation buttons, manually enter the sets IP address, and a provisioning (TFTP) server IP address.

All the other settings can stay default... Press the APPLY softkey
The phone reboots, and should then flash the firmware from the TFTP server.

SIP ⇄ UNIStim:

When booting:

Create an appropriately named text file containing the following:

[FW] DOWNLOAD_MODE FORCED VERSION yyyy FILENAME yyyy.bin PROTOCOL TFTP SERVER_IP 10.30.30.2 SECURITY_MODE 0

yyyy is the new firmware version number, eg, 0625C94, or SIP1140e04.04.29.00
yyyy.bin is the corresponding firmware file, eg, 0625C94.bin, or SIP1140e04.04.29.00.bin

For example:

Edit the version and filenames as appropriate. Protocol must be TFTP for firmware.
Make sure both the provisioning (.cfg) and firmware (.bin) files are available in the TFTP servers root directory.

Place .cfg and .bin files in the TFTP server root directory.

  1. Press and hold the digit 2 and the UP navigation arrow
  2. Plug in the phone, keeping the two buttons pressed
  3. When "Starting DHCP" appears, release the buttons
  4. The phone reads the .cfg file, and downloads the .bin
  5. After writing, the phone reboots

As IP phone settings are "sticky", you may need to reset again:
